2/26/26 Nicaragua – Thursday – The Eighth Day

In the morning, we prepared about 100 sandwiches and drinks to feed those who actually live at a local dump.

This is also the saddest part of our trip. We will see whole families, including small children, scavenging the dump for recyclables and edible food.

Aftwards we headed back to our hotel to get cleaned up and then meet ourselves for lunch at a local church.

We had a local pastora who wanted to fix us a special meal – Iguana Soup! I am always willing to try new foods. In my mind, most people’s objections to trying new foods are purely psychological ( unless known to be harmful to humans). She actually fixed two soups, Iguana and Chicken soup, for those who could not overcome the idea of eating iguana.

When trying new foods, I try to keep in mind the words of Jesus:

  • Luke 10:8 ESV – 8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.

Or as a pastor friend of mine once told me:

  • Lord, where you lead I will follow. Lord, what you feed me I will swallow!

I found iguana literally tastes just like chicken!

In light of seeing the families who live at the dump, I have learned to be appreciative for what ever I have the benefit to eat and to becareful not to waste food. Something that I think is a grievous sin upon us Christians from America.
