It´s that Simple…

What I like most about going on short-term mission trips is that it reminds me of the constant need around me to bring the Kingdom. We get too used to our daily routines. Got to pray twice this week with complete strangers.

On Friday, I was walking through a diner after meeting up with some friends, and there was a woman sitting alone in a booth dabbing tears from her eyes. So I went over and introduced myself. Turns out that she recently lost a friend, and it also made her think of her mother, who passed about two years ago. I then asked,¨May I pray for you?¨ It was that simple. I quickly said a silent prayer for wisdom and acknowlged through praying out loud that there is a time for grieving (Ecc 3.4) and that the God of all comfort would be with her. (2nd Cor 1.3). No, trying to sermonize her that her friends and family are now in heaven, just an honest recognition of what she was feeling and that God was still with her.

The second time was on Sunday morning whereby I was giving a ride to somone to our church. We stopped for some breakfast pizza on our way to church, and he pulled me over. Pastor, this woman´s brother is about to have major surgery today; she needs prayer. We were right next to the check out line of a convience store! Though he has never been on a short-term ministry trip, he has paid attention enough times to realize that he needs to be sensitive to those around him. He just sensed by the Holy Spirit that he needed to talk to this complete stranger. No theological training, just awareness. We prayed for both immediate healing and the wisdom to guide the surgeon. My concern was for not how God healed but that he heals.

Once upon a time, I used to sell insurance. We were constantly drilled on ¨You always miss a 100% of the calls you don´t make.¨ Well, I have modified that to:

¨You will never see God move in 100% the prayers you never make.¨

It is that simple.
